Dr. Takis Katsoulakos

Managing Director

Holds a BSc, MSc and PhD in Marine Engineering from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and is R&D Director of Inlecom Group since 1996 responsible for the development of the KBOS platform, EU projects and commercial contracts. From Sept 81 to Dec 96 he was with Lloyds Register of Shipping in later years as Senior Principal Surveyor and Head of Applied Information Engineering responsible software development, software assessment services and research and development including some thirty Information Technology projects many in maritime applications. He served as Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of the European Software Institute (1994-1997); Chairman of the Foundation of Enterprise Knowledge Development (1992-1994); Visiting Professor, Computing Science Dept University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (1995-1996); Chairman of many Software Engineering conferences including the IEEE Software Standards. He has published widely. In the last 4 years he has been involved in the technical management of all the INLECOMS projects. Overall 30 year experience in coordinating EU projects. Takis is Security cleared in the UK.

Yash Chadha

Director ofInternational Projects &Business Development

As well as holding a degree in Computing and Statistics, Yash  is a highly experienced Chartered Accountant and entrepreneurial Business Leader with a proven track record of achievement over 27 years in the technology, distribution, recycling, security and service marketplace. Specialist expertise in shaping strategic direction, driving change and delivering significantly increased business performance. He has held a director position in both international private and public companies and leads the business development activities in Inlecom.

Ioanna Fergadiotou

R&D Director

Holds a degree in Physics from Athens University, master degrees in Information Technology & Management (National Technical University of Athens) and Educational Technology (Athens University). She has an over 10-years work experience as a learning consultant, specialised in the design and management of human capital development interventions, using IT-facilitated learning environments. She has participated in over 30 National, European and International -research and commercial- projects, in the fields of Knowledge Management, e-learning and courseware instructional design. From 2003 to 2012 she held the position of a Training Manager at Vocational Training SA and the National Institute of Labor and Human Resources (both operating under the supervision of the Hellenic Ministry of Employment). She has also worked for five years as a project manager in Software Companies (ATC) and for three years as a Research Assistant at the University of Athens. eLearning services company (PLP) owner from 2007 to 2013. Coordinated H2020 EuTravel project.

Dr. Pat O'Sullivan

Director of Innovation& ICT Solutions

Pat held numerous Executive and VP facing roles spanning 23 consecutive years at IBM, where he led countless projects and teams across Ireland, UK, USA, China, Japan, Israel, France, Korea, Germany and India. Throughout his 28 year career Pat has demonstrated a passion for results driven innovation that leads to new commercial products, new technologies and new high value software engineering jobs in Europe. It is in the context of this passion that he joins Inlecom,
Prior to joining Inlecom, Pat was the CTO & Chief Scientist at IBM Ireland’s Innovation Project Office, where he was overseeing new innovation projects across IBM Ireland’s 4,000 staff. He was also recognised as an IBM STSM in 2008, which was an IBM world wide divisional banding awarded to only 12 of IBM Ireland’s senior leaders/managers, and which recognizes significant scientific and leadership contributions well beyond those expected of IBM’s senior managers, scientists and leaders.

Throughout his career Pat has demonstrated his passion for Innovation, evidenced by over 500+ USPTO filed patents, several of which are filed in multiple countries. He also has numerous published papers, with two papers from his work winning the Smith Testimonial Prize and the Mullins Medal respectively at Engineers Ireland. Both of Pat’s MSc and PhD research projects were industry funded and won industry prizes in 1997 and 2001 respectively, and several of his patents have also won industry awards for scientific innovation, advancement and excellence.

Pat is a Senior Member of the IEEE, a Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Engineers of Ireland and he holds the FEANI title of Eur Ing. As an extra curricular activity Pat is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Limerick and at Waterford Institute of Technology in Ireland, as well as an External Examiner at IT Tallaght.  In his spare time he assists as an External Examiner, Adjunct Professor, Guest Speaker/Lecturer and Industry Advisory Board member for several Irish & European Universities, Industry partners, SMEs, Government & Research Bodies.

Pat has led numerous commercialisation projects, contracts and teams over 27 years, including teams of over 135  staff in size. His work has led to numerous successful advancements, technologies, spin-ins and spin-outs. As an example, Logentries was a spin-out company from a joint funded Science Foundation Ireland funded project, the innovation in which Pat conceived and led at his lab over 4 years, and in 2015 Logentries was acquired by Rapid7 for $68m. Alongside the day job Pat currently enjoys several active partnerships and collaborations with Science Foundation Ireland, Ireland’s Industrial Development Authority, Enterprise Ireland, the Irish Research Council, the European Commission and with various University and Industry Partners across Europe. He has a strong international profile, evidenced by 130+ written citations from senior Industry, Government and Academic leaders across USA, EMEA and APAC on his LinkedIn profile. He is frequently called upon to speak at conferences and events in Ireland and across Europe.

Patrick Durkin

Commercial Director

Patrick has led a range of commercial enterprises over an extensive career in enterprise technology. From an early career in software development in Boeing, he moved to software sales in global technology providers such as Teradata and Informix. In 1999, he was appointed country manager for SAS Institute in Ireland and over 7 years delivered consistent year-on-year growth. Subsequently as CEO of iQuate, he led the company from a very early stage to become a recognised global leader in IT cost optimisation. Over recent years, he has assisted a range of early stage technology companies with developing a customer centred product strategy.

Makis Kouloumbis

Program & Delivery Director

Holds a MSc in Information Systems Engineering, an MBA, a Master’s Certificate in Project Management, a BSc in Informatics, and he is PMP certified. Over 18 years’ experience in managing and delivering complex global IT and EU Research projects, working as Portfolio or Senior Project Manager in high demanding and disciplined environments, such as Hewlett-Packard, PwC and EU’s H2020 and FP7.

Dr. Zisis Palaskas

Director of Big Data &Business Intelligence Solutions

Holds an MSc and PhD in Control Systems/Intelligent User Interfaces from the University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), and a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Aristoteleion University. He has extensive experience in Decision Support Systems, Data-Warehouse & Data Mining, On-line Analytical Processing, e-Business. In ILS Zisis Palaskas is leading Research and Development projects in the Transportation and Logistics sector, and is directing the area of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics activities. In IT and Business Consulting he was Manager in Deloitte & Touche Consulting in Information Technology Services, focusing on E-Business B2B services, managing project engagements for IT strategy. He was manager in KPMG Management Consulting in Business and IT consulting Services, managing IT Strategy projects, MIS, Financial Business Modelling. He was a Technical Partner at Cinsight focusing on the development of Business Intelligence Solutions for Financial and Operations Improvement Applications. He was IT Project Manager with ATC for an outsourcing contract with OPENBET. He was Business Development Manager in Computer Studio for Consulting Services, development methodologies and ERP. In IT Operations Management and Product Development he was IT Manager at KINTEC S.A., supporting the expanding business operations of the company in the Telecoms Sector, in customer projects and product development for remote security, monitoring and control of Mobile Telephony assets. In Advisory positions for the Public Sector, he was IT advisor to the President of National Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Post in system implementation, web presence participated in teams developing regulations, and monitored reported in internal operations. He was advisor to the General Secretary of Information Technology in the Ministry of Economics & Finance, participating in Tender Specifications for the TAXIS system and the Government to Citizen Services as regards the Land Property. In Research and Development he is task manager and technical contributor-author in projects of FP7, eSymbiosis, iCargo. In the past, he was Technology Director in «01 PLIROFORIKI» a Greek IT consulting firm, leading the R&D (project Manager of TOOBIS), Software Development, and Consultancy activities. and was R&D manager of Expert Systems International. He has worked in the past as a contractor for EU, monitoring IT projects and as evaluator.

Anna Rutherford

Knowledge Management

Over 25 years’ experience in knowledge management projects and has participated in the development of Inlecom’s strategic knowledge management solutions. She has supervised knowledge management projects in the banking and utilities sectors and surveys on knowledge management implementation trends. Anna has participated in the development of the corporate sustainability framework.

Dr. Nikos Tsampieris

Director of IoT &Security Technologies

Holds BSc Electronics & Computer Engineering, MSc Digital Communication Systems, PhD Digital Signal Processing Techniques for Communication Systems and is heading INLECOM’S IoT and security division and he is the SEIS project manager. H has more than twenty-year experience in management and R&D in the areas of Digital Signal Processing for Communication systems, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), IoT, embedded Security Systems, Cryptography. He holds a patent for an Autonomous VSAT System and a patent for an Integrated Security System. Previously INTRACOM Defence Electronics, International Programs Director and General Manager of the INFITHEON Technologies Company and responsible for the development of Technologies, Products and execution of European R&D programs and ESA projects focusing on the development of disruptive security products and IoT solutions.

Konstantinos Loupos

Head of R&D Program Development

Holds an M.Sc. in Microelectronics Systems Design (University of Southampton, UK) with distinction and an M.Eng. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering (University of Manchester, UK) and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Scrum Fundamentals Expert (SFC). He has an extensive experience in embedded systems and sensors and microelectronics systems. His research interests and activities range in Sensors and systems for Structural Health Monitoring (tunnels, structures, bridges etc), Robotic Systems, Security Systems (sensors and communications), Water Demand Management, Monitoring and Leakage Detection, Fiber-Optic Monitoring Systems, Wireless Sensor Networks and Communication Systems and Application Specific Embedded Systems. Konstantinos Loupos has actively and successfully participated in a series (more than 25, since 2004) of EC co-funded research projects (FP5, FP6 and FP7, H2020, MED, GSRT and other) in the areas of SEC, ICT, SME, NMP, COOP, MED, CBC-MED and TRANSPORT, with significant positions of responsibility (Project Coordinator, Technical Manager, Leader of Development teams etc). He is also serving as an EC expert (proposal’s evaluator) in the topics of TRANSPORT, NMP and SOCIETAL CHALLENGES. He has more than 60 publications in Conference Proceedings, Journals and Book Chapters.

Dr. Ibad Kureshi

Senior Research Scientist

Holds three degrees in Computer Science which includes a PhD from the University of Huddersfield specialising in High Performance Computing and Data Analytics. He then did his Post Doctorate with the Institute of Advanced Research Computing, followed by a Fellowship with the Department of Computing Science at Durham University. Since 2009 he has delivered projects, technology solutions, and publications in the fields of Large Scale Computation (HPC and Cloud), Modelling and Simulation (statistical methods, AI/deep learning, and agent based), Big Data (infrastructure and processing), and Data Analytics (geospatial, numerical, network/graph, econometric). His published works include a contribution to the book “Software Applications for Big Data and Cloud” from ELSEVIER, and several papers to IEEE’s Big Data and ACM’s Knowledge Discovery and Data-Mining.

Dr. Vasileia Filidou

Senior Research Scientist

Dr Vasileia Filidou holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Physics, and an MSc degree in Photonics and Lasers from the University of Patras. She also has a DPhil in Quantum Technologies from the University of Oxford. Her research work has allowed her to publish peer reviewed papers in high impact-factor journals. Vasileia also carried out two PostDocs, at the University of Oxford, and at the London Centre for Nanotechnology, UCL. Her academic background was enriched by a Master in European Studies, Policy and EU project consulting at the Catholic University of Louvain and the Belgian-Italian Chamber of Commerce, in Brussels. Vasileia then worked at UCL as a European Proposal Management for UCL-led bids, at Thomson Reuters as a Proposal Coordinator for Academia Industry and Government, and has acquired an APMP certification in Strategic Proposals. She has managed and reviewed proposals on ICT, Biodiversity, Astrophysics, Transport, Climate, Mathematics Energy and others, and has coordinated bid-writing teams and consortia. She has a very good track record of successful bids for H2020. Before taking up her current role at Inlecom, she worked as a Business Development Manager for Scienomics, a materials and quantum chemistry modelling company, at the National Centre for Scientific Research, Demokritos in Athens.

Georgia Tsiochantari

Project Manager

Holds a BSc in Sociology from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Greece, and an MSc in Occupational Psychology from Goldsmiths University of London. She started working at INLECOM in 2014. Since then, Georgia is responsible for project administration and has also worked in various projects with the commercialisation team in dissemination and exploitation planning tasks in projects such as SELIS (H2020), EuTravel (H2020), and EcoHubs (FP7).

Polydoros Angelos Manimanakis

Research Engineer

Graduating from the Applied Mathematical and Physical Science (MEng) at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Polydoros  has developed a version of a machine-learning algorithm for community tracking of Twitter API in python 3.5 for the National Centre of Scientific Research (NCSR) “Demokritos”. Has also designed and developed a parallel version of the algorithm using Apache Flink. He is currently working as the primary researcher in the MaaS4EU project.

Thomas Krousarlis

Research Engineer

Holds a MEng in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras, he has over 5 years of experience in Solution Design in ICT field. He has participated in the implementation of several EC-funded research and innovation projects in the areas of ICT and transportation. Thomas has previously worked as Product Manager in PaperGo and as R&D Consultant in printing industry introducing a novel IoT concept and an innovative industrial process in the fields of printed electronics and advanced materials as well.

Alexandros Papageorgiou

Blockchain  Specialist

Currently studies at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) in the Informatics Department. He has contributed to various Blockchain projects developing Smart Contracts for a wide variety of businesses including Track & Trace, Land Ownership and Digital Rights Management. Primary expertise includes the Ethereum & Hyperledger Blockchains, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Cryptography. He is currently working in the Chariot Project

Gergana Zaharieva

Project Administrator

Holds a Bachelor in Business Administration from New Bulgarian University and is highly experienced Project Administrator, mainly in social policy projects. She joined INLECOM this year and is responsible for project administration.

Jenny Rainbird

Senior Project Manager

Jenny Rainbird (F), MBA, has joined INLECOM as a Senior Project Manager. Following a career in the Royal Navy where she was active in communications, Jenny has over 20 years of experience managing large, complex and multi-disciplinary EU funded research projects in the areas of safety, security, maritime operations and transport including projects, which required the management of large-scale trials. Recent projects include coordination of the VAMOS project (Viable Alternative Mine Operating System, and the AUGGMED project (Serious Gaming Platform for Multi Agent terrorist training, Jenny was the Security Representative for EUROSKY (Single European Secure Air-cargo Space, and on the Security Scrutiny Committee for iPATCH (Intelligent Piracy Avoidance using Threat detection and Countermeasure Heuristics).

Bill Karakostas

Cloud Solutions

Bill is the VLTN Cloud Services Director. He holds an MSc in Computer Engineering and Informatics, from Patras University and an MSc and PhD in Software Engineering, both from UMIST, UK. Previously senior lecturer in the School of Informatics, City University. He has a fifteen plus year research track in areas such as business engineering (process simulation, modelling, redesign and workflow management), reuse and component-based development, application of cloud technologies in transport. He has led research in the e-Freight project in the virtualisation of e-Freight applications and he is leading the iCargo Ecosystem and CORE Ecosystem Architecture.


Dr. Des Morgan

Systems Engineering &Safety Management

Holds BSc – Electronic and Electrical Engineering and PhD – Electrical Power Systems from the University of Salford and is senior project manager at INLECOM responsible for Systems Engineering. He has over 25 years experience in systems development including manager of the Technology Group at GEC – Marconi Radar and Control Systems Ltd (May 1985 – March 1993) responsible for R & D projects, security systems, generating new products. Dr Morgan has been involved in the SKEMA, E-Freight, SUPPORT and CONTAIN projects.

Anthony Tait

Performance & Risk Management

Anthony worked for over 30 years in the Civil Service where he served as manager of manpower services. He is responsible for performance and risk management as well as supervision of quality management. He has participated in EU projects for the past 15 years.

Professor Michael Bourlakis

Logistics, Procurement and Supply Chain Management

Michael has an applied, industry-led research perspective examining logistics and supply chain management issues via multi- and inter-disciplinary lenses. Subsequently, he has produced more than 170 publications (including 44 journal papers) and his work has appeared in leading supply chain management, marketing and business journals such as, inter alia, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, International Journal of Logistics: Research and Applications, International Journal of Logistics Management, Industrial Marketing Management, European Journal of Marketing, International Marketing Review, Journal of Marketing Management, Environment and Planning D and Technological Forecasting and Social Change.

Michael has also secured (as a PI or Co-I) more than 20 research grants funded by various leading bodies including the European Union (FPVI, FPVII), EPSRC, Food Standards Agency (UK), Technology Strategy Board (UK) and Regional Development Agencies (UK). In 2013, he became a core member of a research team that successfully secured substantial funding from EPSRC (£12 million, 2013-2018) for a Centre on “Sustainable Energy Use in Food Chains”. The Centre will be supported by 33 partners including seven major food manufacturers (e.g. Kraft, Heineken, Heinz) and four leading retail partners (e.g. Tesco, Waitrose, Marks and Spencer).

Dr. Ioannis Koliousis

Maritime Transport,Logistics & Freight Systems

Ioannis Koliousis holds BSc Maritime University of Pireus, MBA from AUEB, and MLog from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has extensive consulting and training experience from operational to strategic level in the field of transportation including devising public transport strategies for a major Port Authority, traffic flow demand management, city logistics, re-organization in a light rail authority, designing and optimizing supply chains.

Dr. Nik Bessis

Visualisation & Graph Methods

Dr. Nik Bessis is a full Professor and a Chair of Computer Science and the Director of Distributed Systems and Technologies (DISYS) research centre at the University of Derby, UK. He holds a BA from TEI of Athens, Greece and, a MA (1995) and a PhD (2002) from De Montfort University, UK. Nik is a Fellow of BCS and a Senior Member of IEEE. He has published over 200 works and won 4 best paper awards. His latest books on IoTs and Big Data have been ranked as top 25 and top 40 on Amazon AI lists. Nik works on visualization and graph methods for big data analytics as well as on developing technical architectures and services in IoTs, Future Internet and clouds. He has served as a PI/Co-I on several projects worth over £3m. He was a Co-investigator for the MSV, ENKI and CloudStream projects, a Host for several EU Mobility research secondments on IoTs and Future Internet and a member of the IoTs council.

Dr. Eleana Asimakopoulou

Security, Disaster & Crisis Management

Dr. Eleana Asimakopoulou is an Expert Evaluator for FP7, Horizon 2020 and national projects in the areas of ICT, Space and Security (Disaster/Crisis Management). She is a Visiting Lecturer at the Hellenic National Defence College and a Visiting Researcher of the Distributed Systems and Technologies (DISYS) research centre at the University of Derby, UK. She holds a BA (2003) from University of Luton, a MA (2009) from Westminster University and a PhD (2008) from Loughborough University, UK. Eleana has kept several appointments as a Lecturer at Barnfield College and University of Bedfordshire, UK. Her research interests focus on user needs, system methodologies and complex computational e-infrastructures for heavily dynamic environments such as those found in disaster and crisis management scenarios. She is an expert on technical architecture modelling and on emergency planning for both GOs and NGOs. She has completed a post-doctoral research secondment in the area of mobile clouds and computational intelligence for dynamic environments, an award funded from UNITE, a EU mobility programme on Future Internet and IoTs. She has over 50 publications to her credit.

Dr. Yannis Katsoulacos


Dr. Yannis Katsoulacos, BSc, MSc, PhD Economics (LSE). Since 1994, Professor of Economics at the Department of Economic Science of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), where he has served also as University Vice-Rector and is currently Head of Department. He has been Commissioner of the Hellenic Competition Commission and Member of the Council of Economic Advisors (SOE) of the Ministry of the National Economy of Greece. He has extensive practical experience in the areas of Competition Policy and Sectoral (Telecom and Energy) Regulation. He has also acted as consultant on competition issues to many of the major multinational or Greek companies (Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE), Minoan, VIVARTIA, Heineken/ Athenian Breweries, SIDENOR, BSH, PMI, PepsicoInt. etc.).

Dr. Yingli Wang

Digital Supply Chains

Dr. Yingli Wang research interests focus primarily on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in logistics and supply chain management. She has conducted extensive research in the area of Electronic Logistics Marketplaces (ELMs). She was awarded the prestigious James Cooper Memorial Cup by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in 2009 for her PhD work in ELM. Yingli has worked with a wide range of industrial companies from various sectors including both SMEs and blue chip companies. Her recent work with a main UK retailer has been highlighted by Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) as a good example of industry and academic collaboration. Before embarking on her academic career, she worked for 9 years at Nestle China in various senior managerial roles.

His career has included CEO of Central and Northern Europe (DHL Global Mail), Global Head of Marketing Services (DHL Global Customer Solutions), Global Head of Sales Development and Segment Development (DHL Worldwide Express).

Dr. Heather McLaughlin

Finance & Logistics

Dr. Heather McLaughlin is an active researcher with expertise in international business, finance and logistics where she has long been involved in maritime policy development. Specialist Adviser to the House of Commons Select Committee for Transport on the Inquiry into the future of UK ports. More recently she has worked on European Commission projects that promote the use of water freight transport in the EU member states. She has extended her research in the labour and human resources area with research on work engagement and is increasingly involved in social enterprise, and business education.

Dr. Maria Lambrou

Service Engineering

Dr. Maria Lambrou has obtained her Ph.D. from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Electrical and Computer Engineering, in the area of Service Engineering (1998); she also has an M.A. in Management Studies from Brunel University, and a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the Aristotle University. Her research interests and work include digital shipping applications and intelligent transportation services, in particular formal specifications techniques and pervasive computing. She has a number of publications in the above areas, and research and technical experience in E.U. R&D projects in communications, e-services, as well as intelligent transport, and e-maritime technologies and applications.

Dr. Kevin Curran

Networks Security

Dr. Kevin Curran has obtained his BSc, PhD in Computer Science from the University Ulster. Reader in Computer Science at the University of Ulster. Kevin has made significant contributions to advancing the knowledge and understanding of computer networking and systems, evidenced by over 700 published works. Areas of expertise include location determination positioning technologies, wireless sensors and network security. He has chaired sessions and participated in the organising committees for many highly-respected international conferences and workshops. He is the Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Ambient Computing and Intelligence (IJACI) and is also a member of numerous Journal Editorial boards and international conference organising committees. He is a regular contributor to BBC radio & TV news in the UK.
